Biodiesel as a Heating Fuel
Biodiesel has been used as a fuel in household
and industrial heating applications. The product can be used neat
(no petroleum oils) and normally requires no systemic modifications
for its use. Since biodiesel is an oxygenated fuel, often only
a recalibration of the air-fuel mixture is necessary. Any certified
fuel heating system technician should be able to make the proper
adjustments with simple jet changes and air balance adjustments.
Of course, the same environmental
benefits are realized as described for using biodiesel in transportation
applications. The result is reduced airborne emissions for all
associated pollutants including a 0% level for sulfur, which has
been shown to cause acid rain.
